Assam Agriculture Competitiveness Project (AACP)


Project Overview

The primary objective of the project is to assist the agricultural and fisheries sectors in the State. The project is funded by The World Bank .The project has three components, i.e. Investment Grant Scheme.  Agricultural Services and Market Chain Development, Infrastructure Development. The third component covers two principal activities, viz. upgrading and rehabilitation of selected roads and bridges and the development of rural markets. The rural roads component of the project is being implemented in nine districts of Assam, viz. Jorhat, Sonitpur, Nalbari, Dhubri, Hailakandi, Barpeta, Goalpara, Morigaon and Karimganj. The component involves the up gradation of approximately 1,000 km of existing rural roads to bituminous standard and the replacement of approximately 285 no. of semi-permanent timber (SPT) bridges by permanent RCC/prestressed concrete bridges. The component also involves the rehabilitation of 1,000 km of existing gravel/bituminous surfaced roads including the repair of timber bridges and cross drainage.

Also included in the project is construction / completion of some missing links from the earlier ARIASP project, comprising eight contract packages in four Districts, viz. Darrang, Cachar, Sivasagar and Lakhimpur.
